@ Strassenfest (Jasper, IN): August 3, 2019

The ages proved unkind to the WRBBC on Saturday as the Indianapolis Blues prevailed in a trio of 5-inning contests played by rules of 1864, 1867 and 1886. In the opener, the men in wool only mustered 3 singles in the bound rules affair for a 12-0 loss. In the middle game, the White River inexperience in the fly game was evident defensively in a 11-3 defeat, however the bats did begin to thaw on a very warm and still day in Jasper for Strassenfest. In the finale, the Blues completed the trifecta with a 16-4 overhand rules win. WR offered up its best offensive effort of the day with 10 hits, including 3 doubles, and 2 walks, but it proved inadequate to match fine striking by the Blues. The top batters for the three combined games were: Sparrowhawk (4-for-6), Bosco (3-for-6 with a double), Farmer (2-for-4 with a double) and Stilts (3-for-7 with a double). Calliope and Sarge hit the remaining doubles while Calliope and Scooter each drew a walk. Of particular note on the defensive side, Sprudel made a fine catch of a line drive and threw to second to double off a baserunner in the opening game.
